Board approves $227,230 amendment for baseball subdrainage

The Johnstown-Monroe Local Board of Education voted to approve a guaranteed-maximum-price (GMP) amendment with Robertson Construction LLC for the athletics improvement project, authorizing up to $227,230 to install subdrainage on the baseball field.
Board members said the subdrainage work is time-sensitive and recommended moving forward this fall so the field can settle and regrow before next spring. The approved package includes two alternates the board chose to fund now — replacing the outfield with sod after drain installation and adding cleanouts — while infield drainage work was deferred to a later phase because of scheduling and play-season impacts (staff estimated an additional roughly $12,000 if pursued separately).
The resolution (25-09-198) authorizes the board president, superintendent and treasurer to negotiate and execute GMP amendment No. 1 and related documents. The motion passed on a roll-call vote with four members present voting yes: Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Ber, Mrs. Davis and Mr. Swagger; Mr. Benton was absent.
The subdrainage item was flagged during a broader capital-project briefing in which staff reviewed the high school addition (six classrooms and a CNA lab in partnership with CEKC), conversion of city-owned space for indoor athletics practice and conceptual designs for a new multipurpose building and west-campus concessions. Staff said they expect the construction team to organize bids immediately once the amendment is authorized.
Next steps include finalizing GMP contract language with Robertson Construction LLC and initiating procurement to allow construction work this fall. The board said additional phases (including the infield drainage) will return for separate consideration after the current season to avoid disrupting play.
