Commission approves routine resolutions, appointments and budget amendments; audit accepted

The Washington County Board of Commissioners approved a series of resolutions, appointments and budget amendments that county committees recommended in recent meetings.

Among the actions: Resolution 260102 approved appointments to the Washington County Public Library Board; Resolution 260103 confirmed mayoral appointments to the budget committee; and resolution 260117 appointed Doug Jones as superintendent of highways (elected by acclamation). The board also approved education capital expenditures for school security and transportation roof repairs, sheriff's office equipment and SRO salary supplements, and a series of property-surplus declarations.

Commissioner Malone, reporting for the audit committee, moved that the board accept the county audit for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025; the commission approved the audit, which the chair described as unqualified. The audit committee also asked county staff to investigate centralized accounting systems that would combine the county and school ledgers for possible efficiency gains.

Most resolutions were approved by unanimous voice vote and recorded as 15 yes. Where roll calls were required, the clerk announced the tallies. Voting records and the text of each resolution are contained in the commission packet and the official minutes.

What's next: Committee-referred items will move to budget or future agendas as specified; the board scheduled follow-up and implementation steps as part of routine committee oversight.
