Mendon planning commission reviews General Plan edits, approves March minutes

Mendon Planning & Zoning Commission members met April 16, 2026, and reviewed a slate of proposed changes to the city’s General Plan, focusing on housing data, parks and trails descriptions, and multiple transportation and parking wording edits. Under civic and cultural activities (Section 9.20), commissioners proposed changing the Pioneer Day language to read “The Saturday closest to July 24th…” and replacing the current “Other” subsection with a “History” subsection that would add the phrase “in the past” after references to Mendon.

Transportation-related edits were proposed for Section 11. The commission discussed whether right-of-way widths should be 66 feet or 99 feet, and recommended changing the second guiding principle in 11.02 to “match the current city code” while removing the fourth guiding principle. In 11.04 Layout, members proposed replacing references to “Center Street 000 North” with SR‑23 and adjusting other street-name placeholders.

In 11.06 Public Transportation, the commission proposed replacing the name “Cache Valley Transit District” with “Connect Transit” and adding a goal to “Maintain contact with CVTD for future expansion.” Commissioners also recommended adding “etc.” to the list of vehicle types under 11.12 Alternative Transportation and made several small timing and wording edits to 11.14 Parking, including changing instances of “6:00” to “7:00” and appending “as listed in the city code.”
