Commissioners accept engineer report, approve bids for sidewalks and Fields Road intersection improvements

The Hamilton County Board of Commissioners accepted the county engineer's report on the proposed vacation of portions of Long Alley and Cider Alley in Crosby Township and unanimously approved resolutions to proceed to bid on two infrastructure projects.
County Engineer Phil Beck told the board the petitioners (David and Kathleen Davies) submitted a survey plat that the Engineer's Office reviewed and found to be legally acceptable, and he recommended the right-of-way vacation be approved. After staff confirmed no negative public comments and that the four affected property owners supported the petition, the board moved to close the public hearing and accepted the report.
The board then authorized bidding for the 2026 sidewalk repair and replacement program with an engineer's estimate of $112,176 from road and bridge funds and a May 7 bid opening and a contract completion date in October. Beck said the sidewalk program will be taken out to bid to coordinate repairs across the county.
Commissioners also authorized advertisement for bids on the Fields Road intersection improvements (Macaulay Road and Conray Road) in Sycamore Township and the city of Sharonville. Beck provided an engineer's estimate of $8,427,774.85 and said the project is supported by an OKI STBG federal grant covering 80% up to $5,893,000 and an OPWC grant covering 20% up to $1,678,923; the remaining share would come from permissive auto funds and local partners, with cost-sharing discussions ongoing with Sharonville and Sycamore Township.
All three engineer-related items (accepting the hearing report and resolutions to bid the sidewalk and Fields Road projects) were adopted on unanimous votes by Commissioners Summerow Dumas, Reece and Driehaus.
The engineer noted the public hearing had an April 1 viewing date and that the vacated right-of-way would be distributed to the parcels identified in the submitted plat. The board closed the hearing after confirming there were no public objections.
