Planning commission recommends replacing Atwater parking code with updated Merced-based model
The commission adopted Resolution No. 0270-25 recommending the City Council replace Chapter 17.63 (parking requirements) with a modernized ordinance modeled primarily on the City of Merced, retaining Atwater's two-space single-family requirement and updating provisions for shared parking, landscaping and ADU/multifamily state rules.

The Atwater Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend that City Council adopt a revised parking ordinance that largely mirrors the City of Merced's modern parking code but keeps Atwater’s existing requirement of two parking spaces for single-family residences.
