Samuels Group superintendent: Page County jail construction progressing; cell painting scheduled this week

Chris Paul, site superintendent for the Samuels Group, told supervisors the Page County jail construction site is active and moving through mechanical and finishing stages.

Paul said electricians are pulling wiring for lighting and security systems, plumbing and HVAC crews are completing rough-ins, and concrete work continues — he reported roughly 80 cubic yards poured that day, about 40 the previous day, and another 20 to 30 yards expected. Detention cell frames and dayroom fronts have arrived and are being installed; painting on the detention cells is scheduled for Friday and carries high volatile organic compound levels, so Paul asked that the public avoid the site on Friday through Sunday while painting and curing continues.

Paul said non-detention painting and finishes are nearly complete in office and reception areas and that padded rooms and visitation areas will be finished by the end of the week. He encouraged supervisors to visit the site after the finishes are complete to review progress.

The board had no votes related to the project during this meeting. The contractor confirmed scheduled concrete pours, frame installations and painting timelines and said staff would coordinate with the sheriff’s department on site visits and access.
