Planning staff: more permit applications expected; explains RFAI process and administrative tower permits

At the March 2 meeting, Development Services Manager Wade Long told the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Planning Commission that planning staff are processing a substantial volume of permit applications and are issuing Requests for Additional Information (RFAIs) when applications need supplemental documentation.
"These are sent to applicants when clarifications or supplemental documentation is needed to complete an application review," Long said, explaining that once requested information is received, planners continue processing the applications. He said staff are currently awaiting information from several applicants across multiple projects.
Long also noted that some recent tower permits have been issued administratively because they met height thresholds that allow administrative approval rather than commission review. He said staff expect more applications to advance to the commission in the near future.
Long framed the update as informational; no policy changes or formal directives were issued during the meeting. He encouraged commissioners to contact Planning staff with questions and noted staff are available to provide guidance on permitting processes.
