Commissioners approve Engineered Controls contract to update courthouse HVAC controls

Commissioners voted unanimously on a motion to accept staff's recommendation to contract with Engineered Controls to upgrade the courthouse HVAC control system.
County staff explained that the existing control "brains" are obsolete and cannot accept additional stations, and that VAV boxes were running as zone-temperature zones rather than true VAVs. Maintenance supervisor Cal and staff said the upgrade would correct those issues and improve heating and cooling performance.
"This is going to upgrade our HVAC...the brains of the system. There's an obsolete case. It's completely full. We can't add anymore stations to it," staff explained during the presentation. After discussion about timing and budget coding, Commissioner Daniel moved to proceed with Engineered Controls; Commissioner Jack seconded the motion and the board approved the contract by roll call.
No dollar figure for the contract was presented in the public discussion at this meeting; commissioners indicated the cost will be budgeted in the appropriate building-fund account for the new fiscal year.
