Waldwick council approves towing fee increase, staffing and pay changes, and a developer assignment

The Waldwick Borough Council voted to approve a series of ordinances and resolutions at its recent meeting, passing changes that affect towing licensing, public safety staffing and personnel pay and adding a developer agreement assignment to the consent agenda.
The council approved Ordinance 2025‑12, which raises the licensing fee for placement on the emergency towing duty list to $500. The ordinance was opened for public comment, received no objections and passed on a roll‑call vote.
Council members also adopted Ordinance 2025‑13, which sets qualifications, powers and duties for special law enforcement officers (SLEOs). During the hearing a resident asked whether the borough had conducted a formal study showing a need for SLEOs in schools and what the long‑term financial impact would be; council and staff said the program was developed in partnership with the board of education and the police department and that they did not have a definitive, borough‑level data study to present.
Council amended and passed Ordinance 2025‑15, which updates salary ranges for borough positions and includes pay increases for fire‑department officer positions. A companion resolution (2025‑176) setting authorized 2025 salaries for specific employees also passed on roll call.
On the consent agenda the council approved routine permits, contract renewals and administrative items. The borough attorney explained that an assignment of a developer agreement for 6 Monroe (transfer to 6 Monroe Waldwick LLC) will be added to the consent agenda and was approved as read.
The council introduced Ordinance 2025‑16 on first reading to increase the number of authorized patrol officers from 13 to 14; a public hearing is scheduled for June 17, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. All formal votes recorded in the meeting were roll calls and, where noted, votes carried by the membership present. One recusal was recorded: Mr. Marello recused himself on Resolution 2025‑170 due to an affiliation.
The actions taken adjust fees, clarify SLEO authority, authorize staffing changes and update pay scales; council members said the measures respond to operational needs while staff said some cost details and audit numbers (surplus amounts) remain pending and will be reported later.
