Hannibal board approves modest lunch price increases, awards food and milk bids

Food service director Andrew, working with school nutrition staff, recommended raising high school and middle school lunch prices from $2.85 to $2.95 and elementary lunch from $2.35 to $2.45 to keep the meal program in compliance with cost‑recovery guidelines; breakfast prices were recommended to remain unchanged. The board moved and approved the meal pricing recommendation.
On procurement, the board approved a series of addenda and awards: the prime food bid and paper bid were awarded to Kohl's Wholesale, the milk bid was awarded to Prairie Farms, and the trash‑liner bid was awarded to Unipac Corporation (a vendor the superintendent said operates out of Florida and submitted a lower bid this year). Each award was moved, seconded and approved.
Board discussion focused on program compliance and the district's obligation to recover costs without creating undue hardship for students. The superintendent and nutrition staff said the district had the option to raise breakfast prices but recommended not doing so now.
