Delegate Price told the Virginia Senate Higher Education Subcommittee that he is sponsoring House Bill 971 to prevent schools and third parties from sharing students' biometric data without consent. He said the bill responds to sports-betting products and NIL arrangements that could use biometric signals such as sleep patterns or heart rate to inform wagers. "What we wanted to do was prevent that from happening to the students," he said, adding the bill would require student consent and bar NIL contracts from forcing students to surrender biometric data.
