City utilities staff announced that fall hydrant flushing will begin soon across the Franklin service area to maintain water quality and verify hydrant functionality.
Jeremy Perry said the flushing rotates water through distribution lines and helps ensure hydrants operate properly. He advised customers who see discolored water to "run water for several minutes to remove any turbidity from their lines" and warned that residents in areas being flushed may notice lower water pressure for periods that typically range from a few minutes up to about an hour; he said average flushes are about 30 minutes depending on the length of the line.
Perry said the city will try to notify residents in affected areas in advance, but advised households to be prepared to run taps briefly after crews work nearby. The city said there should be no long‑term interruptions to service during the flushing program.
