Road and Bridge foremen and staff presented a proposed interim pay plan aimed at curing pay compression among driver/operators, mechanics and foremen. The plan uses a stepped progression (3% steps) with classifications for driver-operator, driver-operator trainer, apprentice, mechanic levels 1–3, mechanic foremen and foremen. The presenter said the plan was developed after comparing pay in five nearby counties and the city of Cortez.
Foremen who reviewed the plan reportedly had no objections; staff said some incumbents’ salaries would be frozen temporarily while the county conducts a full pay study to set permanent ranges. Commissioners asked staff to return with the countywide study and refined implementation details before final adoption.
No action was taken at the meeting beyond direction to proceed with the pay study and return with recommendations.
