County cancels uncontested precinct committeeman elections; nominees deemed elected

Bianca Castanetta, Greenlee County elections director, told the Board of Supervisors that the number of nomination papers filed for precinct committeeman seats is less than or equal to the number of vacancies in several precincts. Under Arizona law, the county may cancel such elections and declare those nominees elected.
Castanetta said the office included a packet listing nominees, write‑in petitions and current vacancies; the board moved, seconded and approved a motion to cancel the elections and to deem nominees elected pursuant to ARS 16‑410 and 16‑822(B.
Board discussion clarified that remaining vacancies may be filled through party processes after the election period closes, and that some precinct seats will remain unfilled until a party chairman or local party process nominates replacements.
The board took no further action on precinct staffing beyond the cancellation motion and accepted Castanetta’s administrative recommendations.
