Commissioner Chuck Lewis explained the base was using wireless transmission that had gone out intermittently and presented a bid to hardwire service directly from the jail; the original work was estimated at $45,000 but, after review, commissioners approved an additional appropriation of $35,000 to cover the needed wiring and hardware. The chair noted the safety-tax construction budget had approximately $46,000 remaining and the county expected to end the year with an estimated $5.4 million in the safety-tax fund, making the additional appropriation feasible.
A motion to authorize the appropriation was made and seconded; commissioners approved the request by voice vote. Commissioners emphasized reliable phone and data service at an EMS base is essential to operations and emergency response.
