The Gibson County Board of Commissioners voted to cover the insurance and related pay for an attorney replacement for the remainder of the current fiscal year, with the department instructed to seek a permanent budget allocation in July.
Lisa Moody presented the personnel item, saying an existing, out-of-county attorney wants to cut back and the county needs to replace that capacity. Commissioners discussed paying the new attorney's insurance and salary out of a supplemental fund for the current year and considering a permanent appropriation at next year's budget. Bob moved to authorize the payment for the remainder of the year; Jay seconded. The motion passed by voice vote.
Commissioners cautioned that state-level funding uncertainty may affect long-term staffing decisions and emphasized the July budget review as the proper time to lock in a permanent position. The board did not set a guarantee for staffing beyond the current fiscal year. The matter will reappear during the formal budgeting process in July.
