Workforce board finalizes shared governance, names new director; county ratifies documents

Coconino County supervisors approved a package of workforce development governance items on April 7 following a lengthy re‑certification process.
Eric Peterson and interim workforce staff summarized a series of documents approved by the workforce board, including a shared governance agreement and updated bylaws. James Arloski and staff described state technical assistance and OEO review, and noted a required correction (an erroneous reference to a different county in the draft SGAA) that the board incorporated prior to approval.
The workforce board recommended Alish Fischer as the new workforce director under the shared governance structure; the Board of Supervisors (as chief elected officials) ratified the appointment. The supervisors also approved an amendment to the service agreement with the one‑stop operator to align program and fiscal year timing and extended the operator contract to allow continuity during the leadership transition.
Supervisors emphasized the need to complete board appointment and composition issues to meet re‑certification standards, and asked staff and the workforce board to proceed with re‑certification, local plan updates and monitoring of the service provider’s performance.
