Staff said the county’s GIS program (which supports 911 addressing, roads and other services) is being modernized; training support for staff is required because the legacy support for the current GIS program ended in March. The quote from Esri covers a two‑day training pass and was funded through county council allocations split between the surveyor’s office and area planning staff. The commission voted 6‑0 to approve the initial purchase and authorized staff to sign off on future training quotes within the county council‑approved budget, with the caveat that any out‑of‑line expenditures would be brought back to the board.
Chair and staff noted Fonten is already conducting independent inspections and preparing to take required certification tests.
