Commission postpones HCA secondary EMS-provider request to June

Palm Beach County commissioners voted 6–1 to postpone consideration of an HCA request to be added as a secondary EMS service provider until the board’s June hearing, after divergent recommendations from staff (approval) and the EMS Council (unanimous denial) prompted calls for more public input and data review.

Mayor Sara Baxter opened the hearing and County Emergency Management Director Mary Blakeney outlined staff recommendations on a requested modification to secondary EMS service providers from HCA Hospitals on the Beach. Blakeney said the Board had previously directed staff, during commissioner comments on March 3, 2026, to review HCA’s materials and return with findings.
