Board approves Aptagy communications platform to replace older messaging systems

The Marion County School Board voted May 12 to adopt a three-year Aptagy communications platform intended to consolidate district messaging, replace older systems such as Skylert and ClassDojo, and provide new tools for attendance outreach and two-way communication.
Kevin Christian, the district’s director of public relations, described the platform as “a comprehensive communications platform featuring an all-in-one single dashboard experience,” and said the contract includes on-site and online training and the option for a free custom mobile app for families, students and staff.
Christian told the board the platform should increase delivery rates and engagement while ensuring communications are preserved as public records. Board members said the switch responds to security and public-record needs: current teacher-family tools do not uniformly produce records the district can retrieve.
The board approved the motion by voice vote (5–0). Staff described the contract as a three-year agreement and said some existing contracts will be retired once Aptagy is implemented; those anticipated savings may offset first-year costs.
What happens next: Technology and communications staff will begin contract implementation and a phased rollout with training for school- and district-level users.
