St. Johns County breaks ground on Greenbryer Park and Library

St. Johns County officials broke ground on the future Greenbryer Park and Library, describing the project as an approximately $23.8 million investment that is part of the county’s regional park initiative.

County officials said the project advances a plan the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners approved about two years ago and is one of several recent park and recreation investments county leaders said total roughly $200 million over the past five years. "St. Johns County is moving. We needed parks," an agency official said, pointing to two parks being built near Trout Creek Academy along 16A and calling the new site the next step in that work.

"Today marks an exciting moment for St. Johns County as we break ground on the future Greenbryer Park and Library," the presenter said, calling the combined park-and-library project a product of "thoughtful" planning intended to maintain the county’s quality of life as the community grows. The presenter described the funding for the project as an approximately $23.8 million investment and said the work is part of a broader regional park initiative approved by the Board of County Commissioners about two years ago.

The presenter also emphasized the library component’s community services, saying, "Public libraries build community by functioning as essential, trusted, and free neighborhood hubs" and listing offerings such as internet access, job training, literacy classes, workshops, book clubs and maker spaces.

County officials did not provide a construction timeline or an opening date during the ceremonial remarks. The presenters referred to prior board action approving the county’s regional park plan; no vote or formal board action occurred at the groundbreaking itself.
