Board hears facilities update; modular 'old Ed' building installed, district targets November occupancy

Facilities staff told the Pendleton County Schools board that several summer projects are complete and that the district has begun finishing work on an off-site modular classroom building.
The district completed phase one of paving at the bus garage and made targeted soft- and exterior repairs at Brandywine Elementary, including new guttering. Facilities staff also reported damage from delivery trucks at a building corner and described a structural re-angle to reduce future collisions.
A larger item was the delivery and assembly of the modular "old Ed" building. Staff described two delivery days followed by crane placement and subcontractor work to square and level the building. "The first part of the building arrived on Monday, second part arrived on Tuesday morning ... about 2:30 in the afternoon that crane was out of there and so we had it sitting together," the facilities speaker said. Mini-split heating and air conditioning have been installed on one side; remaining tasks include skirting, construction of an access ramp, connection of fiber and phone lines, and installation of fire alarms and communications. Staff said the district hopes to occupy the building by November if the remaining work proceeds on schedule.
Board members praised the work and suggested sending a thank-you to the contractors who assisted with installation. No formal action was required for the update.
