Valley View recognizes longtime teacher and names community librarian Friend in Education

The Valley View Local Schools Board of Education used part of its meeting to honor long-serving staff and community partners. Trustees recognized Kelly Doerty for 30 years of instruction to Valley View students and thanked her for her service.
The board also presented the Valley Teachers Association's Friend in Education award to Jackie Garrett, a librarian at the Germantown Public Library's Spartan branch. Board members and staff praised Garrett for coordinating class visits, curating book collections, helping teachers find specialized books and personally purchasing materials to support a student with special needs.
"Jackie has been supporting teachers and students at Valley View for many years, and she continues to put her entire heart and soul into her job every day," a presenter said when introducing the award. Student representatives and several board members offered personal thanks to the honorees during board comments.
The recognitions were part of the board's regular agenda and were followed by the meeting's routine business.
