Valley View board approves curriculum adoptions, handbook updates, online calamity plan and routine business

The Valley View Local Schools Board of Education approved a slate of routine business and instructional items at its public meeting. Trustees voted to accept the district's financial statements for April, approve personnel recommendations and enter a series of curriculum and policy adoptions for the 2026'27 school year.
Board members approved a five-year adoption of the ‘‘SAS Experience’’ online science curriculum for grades 4'8 and the Amplified Math adoption for grades 6'8 and Algebra II highlights. Administration said the SAS Adoption replaces hardcover textbooks with online instructional materials and that the district will return for a new adoption in five years.
The board also approved an online calamity-day plan that allows the district to use online instruction on calamity days six, seven and eight as permitted by state rules; administration explained the first five calamity days remain traditional days off. The handbook updates for elementary, middle and high schools were approved subject to specific revisions requested by board members: clarify the civil-rights compliance officer's name and contact, change ‘‘physician' to ‘‘prescribing provider' in medication-related forms, and update the stated Sinclair academic year entry in the CCP section.
Trustees approved a substitute non-negotiated salary schedule for 2026'27 and adopted changes to the athletic/extracurricular handbook for the coming year. The board accepted a $2,156 donation from the Valley View Parent Teacher Organization to fund the elementary field day and approved a slate of donated raffle items for the high-school fundraiser.
On policy, the board updated policy 8500 (food services) to meet Ohio's notification requirements regarding laboratory-grown meat; a board member moved, partly in jest, that the district's policy ensure the meat served is "real meat," and the policy update required by law was approved.
