Program leaders U. Marquee and Deborah Evans described a curriculum-based initiative tied to Juneteenth observance, including a scholarship pageant, community celebration, an "Empower Her" education summit and historical display panels and digital resources intended for schools and libraries. They estimated the program would reach between 2,500 and 4,000 residents across events and workshops and said partners will supply $3,200 in matching support.
Commissioners asked about video documentation and program format; staff noted the program will produce materials that remain available as a public resource. The commission approved the requested amount (recorded in the meeting as $32,982) by voice vote.
