Committee moves S193 amendments limiting DOC security role to admitting area, sets sunset

The House Corrections and Institutions Committee on May 14 advanced amendments to S193 (feasibility plan for competency restoration), restricting Department of Corrections security to admitting areas (and perimeter if collocated) and noting a sunset for that provision on Jan. 1, 2028; the draft was sent toward House Judiciary and the floor for further action.

The House Corrections and Institutions Committee met May 14 to continue work on S193, a bill that would establish a feasibility plan for competency restoration and a forensic facility. The chair said the panel was considering a proposal to involve the Department of Corrections (DOC) to provide clinical as well as security services as part of the feasibility plan.
