East Ridge council approves actuarial study, community‑center fee waivers and surplus sale

At the May 14 meeting the East Ridge City Council approved a set of routine resolutions and contract recommendations.

The council approved Resolution 38-14 to authorize funds for an actuarial study to determine the cost of a supplemental retirement benefit for certain members of the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System; staff representative Chief Elstelton told the council the study should cost "around $400." The council also approved fee waivers allowing the Crestwood Garden Club and the Chattanooga Porcelain Arts Guild to use the East Ridge Community Center at no charge under Resolutions 38-15 and 38-16; staff recommended the waivers to support longstanding nonprofit activity and the clubs’ community contributions.

Council approved Resolution 38-17 declaring a large turf mower surplus and directing disposal; staff said a negotiated sale to Boyd Buchanan would yield roughly $800 to $1,000 rather than a low auction return. Councilmembers also approved using a third-party collections contractor for delinquent court fines and discussed upcoming contract details with court staff.

Staff additionally previewed the FY 2026–27 budget, noting economic pressures on revenues and higher health‑insurance and fuel costs but reporting the draft budget is close to balanced. Council agreed to review budget details and tentative agenda items for the May 28 meeting.
