Pipestone County adopts AI use policy and recognizes employee service milestones

The Pipestone County Board on April 28 adopted Policy No. U.14 governing county use of artificial intelligence tools and approved Resolution 59‑21‑26 honoring employee years of service; the policy covers employees, elected officials and contractors and aligns with Minnesota data and privacy requirements.

Human Resources Director Charlotte Seager presented an Artificial Intelligence Use Policy (Policy No. U.14) intended to govern how county personnel may use AI tools in the workplace. Director Seager told the board the policy covers all employees, elected officials and contractors and aligns with the Minnesota Data Practices Act, HIPAA and Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) requirements. The board approved the policy by motion of Commissioner Doug Nagel, seconded by Commissioner Dan Wildermuth; the motion carried 3–0 with two commissioners absent.
