Commissioners direct EMS and treasurer to develop plan for a dedicated deployment credit card

Michael Furrh, representing Colorado County EMS, told the Commissioners Court that EMS participates in a statewide Emergency Medical Passports initiative and sometimes deploys for state emergencies. He asked the court to authorize a dedicated credit card for deployment expenses; EMS suggested a $10,000 credit limit to ensure funds are available during deployments and to simplify reimbursement paperwork.
Commissioners asked whether the request should wait for the upcoming Huntington Bank transition (June), or whether increasing limits on existing cards would suffice. Michelle Lowrance explained the new bank will introduce a different process for credit cards and that the current system is not tied to deposits. Commissioners Gertson and Judge Prause discussed alternatives, and the court moved to have EMS staff meet with the County Treasurer (Joyce Guthmann) to define allowable merchant categories and controls and return with a recommendation; the motion passed 5-0.
The court did not authorize issuance of a card or set a limit; it directed a follow-up meeting and report back to the Commissioners Court for final approval.
