Colorado County approves application for state cybersecurity mitigation grant

The Colorado County Commissioners Court on Feb. 9 authorized the execution of a resolution and submission of a grant application to the Office of the Governor for the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP) — Mitigation Projects, FY2027. The court voted 4–0 to approve the application.
Charles Schneider, who presented the item to the court, said the project would replace backups and firewalls at the Colorado County Courthouse and the sheriff’s office. Commissioner Ryan Brandt moved to authorize the resolution and application; Commissioner Shannon Owers seconded the motion, which passed with four ayes and no nays.
The adopted resolution designates the county judge as the grantee’s authorized official and the county auditor as the grantee’s financial officer, and it affirms the court’s intent to provide any required matching funds and to return grant funds in the event of loss or misuse. Attachments entered into the record include vendor quotes from CDW‑G showing line items for firewalls, subscriptions and cloud storage; one attached quote shows a subtotal of $14,670.01 and another attached quote shows $86,997.90 in quoted services and hardware.
Next steps recorded in the minutes: county staff are authorized to submit the application package to the Office of the Governor and, if awarded, to proceed with procurement and implementation consistent with the resolution’s terms.
