The Dickson County Commission handled a bundle of routine and fiscal items on May 18, approving several appointments, financial reports, a land purchase adjoining the county landfill and the issuance of short-term notes to fund highway and ambulance equipment.
Appointments and reports: The commission reappointed members to the 911 board (Steve Scherer, Tiffany Dawson Lane, Chuck Boyd, Tony Adams) and to the library board of trustees (Andrea Beaubien, Tammy Kilgore, Lynette Edmondson). Quarterly financial reports for school funds and for all county funds were accepted after staff review.
Land acquisition: The commission voted to accept purchase of 60 acres adjacent to the county landfill for $1,200,000 using funds from the landfill remediation trust. Staff said the parcel will serve as a buffer and for storage of storm debris; the motion carried on a voice vote.
Speed limit: Sheriff Eaves presented a five-day traffic study for the 200 block of Murrell Road that recorded 3,258 vehicles and reported that most drivers were traveling around 39 to 40 mph. The sheriff recommended reducing the posted limit from 45 to 35 mph; Commissioner Buckner moved the change, which passed by voice vote.
Capital outlay notes: The commission suspended rules to consider two bond/note resolutions to meet a fiscal-year deadline. The highway department capital outlay notes (series 2026) were authorized in an amount not to exceed $1,250,000; ambulance equipment capital outlay notes (series 2026) were authorized in an amount not to exceed $272,288. County staff said these are being executed under previously budgeted authority.
Other routine approvals: The commission approved budget amendments presented by county finance staff, and approved increasing the previously authorized purchase of the Pond Convenience Center from $75,000 (3 acres) to $80,000 for 5 acres to complete the sale.
Next steps: Several speed-limit study requests (Old County House Road, Slaton Wood Road) were referred for staff review; the commission scheduled a budget advisory committee meeting and set the next regular meeting for June 22.
