Grant County commissioners approved immediate repairs to the courthouse elevator and moved forward on a request for proposals to replace the unit, while also voting to award several facility and records contracts.
The board approved a TKE repair work order for $41,976.88 to replace brake components and directed staff to revise payment language so final payment is due on completion rather than commencement. Chair said the elevator is the courthouse’s only elevator and called the outage a significant liability; commissioners voted to approve the repair order. The commission also voted to pursue an RFP for full replacement of the elevator. Chair noted the county has asked the county council for an additional appropriation advertised at $1,000,000 to address the elevator issue pending a detailed cost estimate.
On procurement, commissioners approved a United Consulting contract for part-time inspection services related to Bridge 102 and Bridge 138 (pile driving and concrete testing). They approved a VFP Fire Systems quote of $115,809 to install a fire suppression system on the first and second floors of the Salem Bank building to meet occupancy requirements, and voted to accept a VFP Fire Systems quote of $116,800 to replace the county complex fire alarm panel and associated devices and owner training. The board also approved a Condor digitizing contract for $20,004.95 to digitize 12 books and microfilm jackets from 1967–1994; the recorder reported funds are available in her budget.

The chair noted the $41,000 repair will affect the county budget and that the $1,000,000 appropriation request to county council may be adjusted to reflect actual replacement costs once bids and estimates are received. No public opposition to the specific contracts was recorded during the meeting. The board asked staff and legal to ensure contract payment terms reflect completion milestones where appropriate.
