Event Center staff report sidewalk coordination, lease concerns and master-plan timing

Event Center Director Kady Porterfield used the April 27 study session to summarize several operational items affecting the Kittitas County Event Center. Porterfield said she has an on-site walk-through scheduled with the City for a sidewalk project; the City approved the permit last week and bids for the contract will be due next week, solicited through the Small Works Roster. Maintenance and Solid Waste Director Patti Stacey added that electrical re-routing for a future RV park is being coordinated with the sidewalk work.
Porterfield reported that KVEC held the Back Country Horseman event in April and that it drew a strong crowd after the event moved from March. She also said the Rodeo Association secured the parcel previously occupied by the radio station, preserving space needed for Labor Day weekend. On master-plan timing, Porterfield said commissioners should keep potential PUD property sale discussions on the radar for the KVEC Master Plan update in 2027, pending budget approval.
Porterfield said the current bowling alley lease has been extended to the end of the year and that she will send the lessee a letter noting the lessee's failure to maintain the parking lot and asking for a timeline to reopen; the Fair is concerned about potential loss of parking and Porterfield recommended renegotiating lease terms at renewal to protect fair parking.
