Pine County board approves routine consent items, demolition contract and recognitions

The Pine County Board of Commissioners cleared a range of routine business at its May 5 meeting, approving consent items covering licenses, donations, contracts, promotions and training, and awarding a demolition contract for the former Finlayson Creamery.
Notable consent items included awarding 2026 gravel hauling to Bjorklund Companies for $316,260 and accepting donations such as a $4,499 gift from East Central Energy Operation Round Up Trust Board designated for the Pine County Sheriff’s Office drone program and a $1,000 donation from New Horizon Thrift Store to Health & Human Services for the Operation Community Connect event. The board approved personnel actions including the promotion of Jackson Workman to Deputy Sheriff and the promotion of Nicole Novy to Deputy Environmental Services Manager, and authorized a new hire, Derek Arnsdorf, as a property appraiser.
County Auditor-Treasurer Mary Lindala described eleven bids for asbestos abatement and demolition of the former Finlayson Creamery at 2190 Finland Avenue in Finlayson, ranging from $72,500 to $198,956. The board awarded the contract to DRC, Inc. for $72,500 to be paid from the Blight Fund; once cleanup is complete the county intends to place the parcel up for auction with proceeds returned to the Blight Fund. The demolition is estimated to start mid-summer and take approximately two weeks.
The board also recognized the retirements of Property Appraiser Karen Stumne after more than 32 years of service and Children's Services Case Aide Laurie Plessel after more than 30 years of service. Jail Administrator Rod Williams requested recognition of National Corrections Officers' Week (May 3–9, 2026); the board adopted Resolution 2026-20 recognizing correctional staff.
Other items included authorized staff training and schedule adjustments for upcoming meetings. The meeting adjourned at 11:07 a.m.; the board’s next regular meeting is May 19, 2026.
