Commissioners approve multiple bids, MOUs and facility repairs; pay applications cleared

At their May 19 meeting the Porter County Board of Commissioners approved a series of procurement awards, memoranda of understanding and facility payments.
Key approvals included:
- Hackney Lane pavement and drainage improvement: staff recommended the lowest responsive bidder and the board approved an award for the base bid of $1,124,597. (Staff had reviewed two submissions and recommended the low bidder.)
- Market Greenwood (Calumet Trail) reroute, Phase 44: staff recommended awarding the base bid plus both alternates to Gary Up Construction for a combined recommendation of $1,518,500; commissioners approved the award.
- Facilities work: commissioners approved ballistic security film for the 157 Franklin building ($9,459.80), epoxy floor work for EMA ($23,800, bond funded), generator transfer‑switch repair at the animal shelter (~$13,231.55), and related pay applications for jail and highway contractors as presented.
- MOUs: commissioners approved a renewal designating the Porter County Expo Center as a POD site for public health emergencies and separate MOUs to install and maintain AED/Safe Heart Stations at the Expo and Sunset Health Park.
- Pay applications: multiple pay applications for the jail and highway projects were read and approved as listed on the agenda.
Votes were handled by voice; commissioners directed staff to continue review and return detailed recommendations where further action or larger funding decisions are required.
