Engineer Jared Johnson reports culvert replacements, bridge progress and routine road maintenance

Engineer Jared Johnson updated the Ringgold County Board of Supervisors on May 18, 2026, reporting completed culvert replacements, ongoing bridge work and routine road maintenance across multiple maintainer districts.
Johnson said crews hauled spot rock to the north central and northeast maintainer districts and put the total patcher to work repairing potholes. Tractors and mowers were mowing vegetation along paved roadsides in the northwest, east and southern parts of the county, and crews sprayed brush around bridge ends and in areas where trees and brush had previously been cut.
The department listed several completed work orders: W.O. 1456 replaced a deteriorated 36-inch CMP culvert with a new 36-inch ADS culvert and armored the outlet with revetment on 180th Ave between 115th and 130th Streets. Work orders W.O. 1457, 1458 and 1459 addressed cleanouts and ditching to improve drainage on multiple roadway culverts along 205th Ave between 325th Street and the Missouri state line. W.O. 1460 and W.O. 1461 replaced deteriorated 24-inch concrete culverts with new 24-inch ADS culverts and armored outlets with revetment on 212th Ave between J55 and 310th Street; both were reported complete.
Johnson also reported project-specific work. The department is revising the alignment for the Jefferson 26 project. For the Union 13 project, consultant Eocene completed field work for a wetland determination and the department submitted materials to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources for floodplain and sovereign lands clearance; Johnson said the department received notice that no IDNR permits were required.
On the Middle Fork 10 bridge, crews drove the remaining falsework piling for the west-end span, drove west pier piling to refusal, extended short piling at the west pier, built a crane pad for interior-span piling, removed the existing east bridge and excavated for the east abutment and pier piling. Rebar shop drawings were checked and approved. Johnson noted that heavy rain over the weekend washed out the temporary stream crossing and said, weather permitting, crews planned to rebuild that crossing and continue east-span piling and related repairs.
Finally, Johnson said the Washington254 project had to be resent to the Location and Environment bureau because of problems opening attachments in the original submission.
The department did not provide firm completion dates for the listed projects during the report. The Board did not ask for further public testimony during this agenda item and took no formal action beyond accepting the update.
