Madison County approves infrastructure allocations, multiple routine resolutions and bridge dedication

The Madison County Board of Commissioners on May 19 approved several funding allocations and a series of routine resolutions, and heard partnership reports on upcoming projects.
Todd, a county staff member who reviewed allocations, summarized requests for county competitive funding: Mount Sterling requested a planning study for culvert and flood issues (staff said the study would benefit roughly 500 residents and improve competitiveness for future critical‑infrastructure grants), Midway requested park and playground equipment updates, and South Solon sought repairs at its wastewater treatment plant to prevent backups into Rattlesnake Creek. "I think this is a really good project," Todd said of the Mount Sterling study, adding the county's allocation rose to about $180,000 under the state formula for low‑to‑moderate income areas.
Partnership reports included a "Friends" representative reporting that contracts are signed with the Open Space Institute and asking what steps (resolution or public announcement) are needed to make acquisition funds available ahead of a potential August closing.
Following discussion the board moved through a sequence of resolutions: approving invoices; authorizing travel and training for economic development course attendance; approving a mortgage satisfaction; authorizing the purchase of a service weapon for a deputy; awarding construction contracts for the Spring Valley Road bridge replacement; authorizing a raised‑pavement marker project; approving travel for the Board of Elections; approving petroleum underground storage tank coverage for the county airport; and adopting a proclamation dedicating the Little Darby Creek covered bridge as the David P. Brann Memorial Bridge. All items on the consent portion of the agenda were adopted on roll call.
The board adjourned after the votes.
