The Jackson County Board of Commissioners presented a Community Service Award to Dr. Lance West of Central Point School District No. 6 during its April 29, 2026, regular meeting.
Commissioner Randy Sparacino presented the award and said Dr. West "lives through his values and truly makes Jackson County a better place to live." Commissioner Colleen Roberts said the board recognizes individuals whose many contributions to the county often go unnoticed.
A Mr. Davenport spoke in support of Dr. West, saying that educating children requires the efforts of many community members and praising West as a role model and leader in the county. Dr. West responded by expressing respect for Mr. Davenport’s work with local schools and reflecting on childhood experiences that shaped his commitment to service: "This is a wonderful community and there are many individuals worthy of this Award," he said.
The award presentation was the primary ceremonial item on the agenda; subsequent business included routine consent items and approvals of several orders. The meeting adjourned at 9:49 a.m.
