The Will County Planning and Zoning Commission took a series of routine actions May 19, approving two variances and a temporary use permit and postponing another case to a later meeting.
The commission approved a variance (ZC26010 / V‑26019) to allow a 32‑by‑48 addition to an existing pole barn on a legally nonconforming lot in Green Garden Township after staff concluded the lot’s nonconforming status predated the current owner and recommended approval. No members of the public objected and the motion carried by roll call.
The panel also approved a variance (ZC26016 / V‑26‑114) to allow a small covered porch and stoop that encroach into modern street setbacks on a corner lot in Lockport Township. Alec Van Patten summarized staff’s review, which found the house predated current setback rules and the requested change would not alter the character of the area.
A separate temporary use permit (ATUP‑26‑002) was approved to allow two shipping containers on residentially zoned lots while an applicant constructs a permitted house. Applicant Raymond Alcala told the commission he had placed containers while moving materials and expects construction to be complete well before the 180‑day period recommended by staff; the commission granted the permit with the usual condition that the containers be removed or relocated when the related building permit closes.
One zoning case (ZC26013) was postponed to the June 16 commission meeting because the applicant failed to provide certified mailings and required sign posting.
