Assembly extends recycling contract with Threshold Services through 2027

The Kodiak Island Borough Assembly unanimously authorized the borough manager to execute extension number 6 to contract FY2021-01 with Threshold Services for recycling services.
Manager Williams told the assembly the extension aligns recycling and solid-waste contracts through July 1, 2027, and will give staff time to solicit an RFP that allows alternative bids to handle recycling separately if Threshold Services does not continue. "Approval of this extension would continue to align the timeline of the recycling and solid waste contracts, which would go into effect on 07/01/2027," Williams said.
Assemblymember Mister Whiteside moved the authorization and the roll-call vote was unanimous in favor. Assembly members said the extension allows time for a competitive process and improved coordination between service providers.
Next steps: Staff will proceed with the RFP process, including an alternative bid option for recycling services, and present timing and options to the assembly during upcoming meetings.
