Kickapoo district reports robust summer programs; about 160 students signed up so far

District staff reported that summer school and Camp Kickapoo enrollment is progressing with about 160 students signed up so far and expectations the total may approach 200 by the start of programs.

Staff outlined programming (babysitting and beyond, hunter safety, fishing, basketball, volleyball, and a younger-child camp split by grade). The district will provide transportation and rely on a mix of regular teachers and volunteers; some teachers can only cover certain weeks and other activities have capped enrollment (for example, one fishing class is capped at 25 students). The board heard that Camp Kickapoo will run week-long sessions with staff supervision and that one outside provider will pick up students and transport them to the Kickapoo Valley Reserve for outdoor activities.

Board members discussed logistics (transport, staffing constraints for teachers who can cover only limited weeks, and insurance and background paperwork for outside providers). They also asked staff to track deadlines and to circulate the final rosters and transportation plans before the program start.
