Board appoints Commissioner Workman to Metropolitan Solid Waste Planning Group

The Carver County Board voted May 19 to appoint Commissioner Workman to the Metropolitan Solid Waste Planning Group, which will meet annually to coordinate regional solid‑waste policy and planning.
Brad Hanzel, the county's environmental services manager, briefed commissioners on the group and the metropolitan solid‑waste policy plan adopted in 2024. Hanzel said the first joint commissioner and staff meeting is scheduled for July 22 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency offices and will cover MPCA updates, planning for large facility closures, regional data practices and curbside organics collection planning for cities of 5,000 or more by 2030.
Commissioner Anderson moved to appoint Commissioner Workman; Commissioner Lynch seconded the motion. The board approved the appointment by voice vote. Commissioner Workman said he would represent ratepayers and taxpayers at the meetings.
Staff indicated several county staff members will also attend the July session to support the appointed commissioner.
