Reid Hoffman, a consultant with Sewell Fleet Management, told the Midland County Commissioners Court on Aug. 19 that a data‑driven “life‑cycle” approach could reduce the county’s vehicle operating costs by prioritizing resale timing, preventive maintenance and optimized funding. Hoffman said his company’s analysis of the county’s 241 vehicles found an average vehicle age around 2020 and proposed a roughly five‑year replacement cycle for most gas‑engine vehicles, with longer benchmarks for diesels and specialty units.
