McGregor council backs $1.5M plan for Casting Park, approves grant application support

Cassie, the presenter, told council members Texas Parks and Wildlife will match up to $750,000 and that the total project budget is estimated at $1.5 million. Proposed improvements include upgraded baseball fields, a batting cage, parking, ADA-compliant restrooms and basketball-court upgrades. Cassie outlined the grant timeline: applications open in March and remain available through August, awards are announced in November, and awarded projects typically begin the following January with up to three years for completion.
Council member (speaker 5), who also chairs the community service board, said the board supports the submission. The council approved Resolution R08-2026 by voice vote after a motion and second with no further discussion.
If the grant application is successful, the city would need to budget and plan for its matching share and timing over the following years.
