Supervisors discuss solid-waste operations, electronics recycling and road projects

Crawford County supervisors used part of their May 19 meeting to review solid-waste operations, recycling metrics and several transportation projects.

S1 and S3 described efforts to renew a dedicated fund for the county’s solid-waste transfer station to simplify audits and ensure funds are available if the transfer station closes temporarily. S1 said the board would obtain quotes to repair roofs on storage buildings (estimate roughly $10,000) rather than replace structures.

Electronic recycling drew attention: S1 reported that in 2025 the county recycled about "35,000 pounds of TVs and computer monitors," and supervisors compared local fees to Carroll County’s posted $22.50 per TV/tablet/laptop/monitor. Board members discussed coordination with vendor pickups and whether the program yields net revenue or a cost-neutral outcome for the county.

On transportation, supervisors discussed the L51 project schedule and DOT calibration of plant equipment, bridge crew progress on a street bridge repair, and selected sites for possible pipe-liner testing. Supervisors also debated a vendor demonstration of a topical road-stabilization (dust-control/stabilizer) product and whether to allow a free trial quarter-mile test section — including concerns about road closures and traffic disruption during curing.
