Greenburgh recognizes 37 students in inaugural summer internship program

The Greenburgh Town Board on Sept. 11 presented stipends, certificates and letters of recommendation to 37 students who completed the town’s pilot summer internship program.

Commissioner Jackson, who helped design a leadership strand tied to Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits curriculum, told the board the pilot connected students to multiple town departments to give them practical experience and leadership skills. “It was a great program,” the commissioner said.

Deputy Beltran thanked interns and department managers and credited Town Clerk Lisa Marie Nero and participating department heads for supporting the work. “Greenburgh has produced an exceptional group of students that are going to lead the future of the world,” the deputy said.

Parents and several students were recognized at the meeting; one parent, Veronica Bazemore, described the opportunity as especially helpful for a son who began 10th grade during the summer. The board took photographs and presented stipends on the record.

The board said it will continue the internship next year and anticipates running a 2025 program with lessons learned from the pilot.
