The Boxborough Select Board voted May 11 to approve changes to building permit and inspection fees proposed by planning and building staff, including a move to a flat $60 fee per inspection. Alec (planning/building staff) explained that electrical permit fees had not been updated since 2016 and were being realigned with plumbing and gas fees; the change aims to equalize inspector compensation and ensure permits cover inspection costs.
Alec said the intent is a flat $60 per inspection with reinspection fees assessed at the same rate. He noted some line items needed correction to match $60 multiples (for example, storable pools/hot tubs/spas should be $120 for two inspections) and the staff would finalize those edits. The board voted, as amended, to increase building permit fees effective immediately; staff said the full redivision should be current by July 1.
Chair moved the motion to increase building permit fees as amended; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Board members asked staff to confirm there are no unintended personnel‑plan impacts and to return with any required amendments prior to town meeting if needed.
