Senate advances multiple House bills in short floor votes; three items ordered for third reading
Summary
The Vermont Senate passed two House-origin bills on third reading quickly (H.542 and H.710) and ordered third reading for H.294 and H.567 after committee reports and brief floor questioning.
The Senate convened and quickly moved through several House bills, taking voice votes on two measures and ordering additional bills for further consideration. Early in the session the chamber read and passed H.542, an act relating to terminating PCB testing of schools, and H.710, an act defining electricity generating facilities, by voice vote.
Later in the morning the Senate read H.294 (telecommunication services and wages in correctional facilities) for second reading and, following a committee report, ordered it for third reading. The chamber likewise read H.567, the treasurer’s omnibus covering unclaimed property, retirement and OPEB changes, and the Vermont Saves program, and ordered that bill for third reading after finance and appropriations reports.
None of the quickly passed bills drew extended floor debate; detailed discussion and votes on substantive policy changes occurred later in the session on other bills.
