John (county IT/cyber staff) explained the county currently pays about $10,000 a year for its subscription and receives services including internet monitoring, a 24/7 security operations center and discounted antivirus/malware procurement. John said membership helps the county and smaller organizations share threat intelligence and obtain incident-response assistance.
Supervisor Hansen asked whether centralization posed any additional vulnerability; John said the organization does not hold staff email lists and that county personnel participate in voluntary mutual-aid networks and cyber-response teams.
The resolution passed unanimously. John and board members said participation helps smaller entities in the county that may lack full-time cybersecurity staff.
What happens next: The county will continue its membership and encourage broader state-level arrangements that could lower per-organization costs for cybersecurity services.
