Commissioner withdraws motion to allow Sharp Mountain driveway placement after staff objections

On March 17 the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners heard and then withdrew a motion by Commissioner Cagle to permit a Sharp Mountain entrance that would not align with a neighbor's driveway on Old Highway 5; commissioners said they preferred staff and the developer to propose a concrete alternative.

Commissioner Cagle moved March 17 to allow the Sharp Mountain development to place an entrance on Old Highway 5 that would not line up with the neighboring driveway, overriding the county transportation staff recommendation. Commissioner Wetherbee seconded the motion, but several commissioners expressed concern that bypassing engineering guidance now could remove the county's ability to require alignment as surrounding properties develop.
